We took good care of the butterflies in our classroom. Last week both Senior Infant classes went into the courtyard to let the butterflies into their natural environment. One butterfly flew into the pond but Ms. McCarrick lifted it out and the butterfly flew away happily. We had a fun time letting the butterflies  fly away. We took lots of photographs. We hope our butterflies are having fun and laying eggs.

We had a really exciting day yesterday. Thomas from a local pet shop visited us and he brought in tarantula, giant snails, a python, a blue tongued lizard and snake skins! He told us lots of different things about them and said that he would come back next year with lots of different spiders and reptiles. Check out some of the photos.

Our caterpillars are growing every day. Look how big they have gotten.

Our caterpillars are in their cocoons. We put them into the habitat and we pinned them to the mesh. We must now wait until they turn into butterflies. In about ten days the protective shells will spilt and the butterflies will come. We are lucky to have cocoons in our classroom. We cannot wait to see our butterflies!

When we arrived back to school after the weekend three butterflies had hatched out of their chrysalis. It was so exciting. They look really beautiful. We must feed them everyday. Here are some pictures!!

Last week we learned about the Life of a Butterfly.

Butterflies lay their eggs on the leaves of plants and trees. After ten days the eggs hatch into caterpillars.

We have caterpillars in our classroom. We have five caterpillars. Over the next two weeks the caterpillars will grow so that they are ready to turn into butterflies.

They must be kept between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius. We will get a temperature gauge so that we can check the temperature each day.

We must not keep the caterpillar in the sunlight so that they will not dry out. We must not keep them on the windowsill.

We are very excited to see our caterpillars change. We might give the caterpillars names.

Our caterpillars are growing every day. Look how big they have gotten.

Senses

Today Junior Infants were visited by Dr. Liz Tully. She talked to us all about the five different senses. We got to explore the different senses by putting our hands into a magic bag and describing what we felt. It was great fun!

I am a sixth class pupil who creates some logos for the school’s blogs.

I have recently created this one, for science day. It took me a while, but it was fun!

I disguised each letter as a different scientific thing. I really enjoyed making this.
